Superfood is basically a popular marketing term for unprocessed food claimed to give extraordinary health benefits, often resulting in weight loss, enhanced energy levels, anti-aging and other lifestyle changes. The word “superfood” is not generally used by medical experts, dietitians, or nutritionists, most of whom either dispute that certain foods possess the claims made by their proponents. Some individuals even go as far as saying that all foods are superfoods. However, there is some merit to the term. Let’s see what some foods are really like.
Superfoods, also known as superfoods, have been around for many decades. A variety of colorful fruits such as acai berries and goji berry are examples of fruits considered to be superfoods. Acai berries contain vitamin B3, antioxidants, protein, carbohydrates, calcium, iron, magnesium, potassium, selenium, thiamin, Travelling to indonesia, riboflavin, phytosterols, Vitamin E, Vitamin C, Vitamin D, Vitamin A, Vitamin B-12, folic acid, and several other nutrients. Some of these nutrients may help to improve your health and well-being. The antioxidants found in these foods may prevent diseases and conditions such as heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
Some studies have shown that eating foods with antioxidants can protect the body against cancer, diabetes and heart disease. It is said that superfoods boost the immune system and may lower the risk of cancer. The nutritional value of these foods is comparable to that of nuts, seeds, fruits and vegetables. As you can see, the nutritional content of foods is comparable to those found in non-superfoods.
Another superfood is quinoa. Quinoa is high in protein and contains high levels of healthy carbohydrates, minerals, and vitamins. In fact, quinoa is higher in protein than beef, soy, chicken, turkey and brown rice. The amino acids found in quinoa help reduce inflammation and is beneficial to our digestive system. Studies have also shown that quinoa has high levels of zinc which is beneficial for the heart, brain, nerves, bones and the gastrointestinal tract.
Last but not least is kale. Kale has an impressive array of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and nutrients. It contains all eight of the B vitamins, as well as magnesium, iron, calcium, potassium, phosphorus, silica, selenium, lutein, flavonoids, and others. Researchers believe that kale has healthful effects on cholesterol because of its high amount of fiber. Kale is also a good source of vitamin A, vitamin C, selenium, niacin, riboflavin, and others.
There are many other superfoods, as well. Some of the most nutritious foods include: salmon, tuna, mango, strawberry, acorn squash, papaya, avocado, apricot, cantaloupe, peaches, pears, bilberry, grapefruit, kiwi, raisins, pineapple, raspberries, strawberries, blueberries, green tea, ginger, hawthorn berries, and blackberries. As you can see, there are plenty of nutritious foods that can be classified as “superfoods”. Each year, scientists and researchers pour over the literature from all over the world in order to compile the most beneficial research that they can find. Unfortunately, many of the most beneficial foods are too difficult for us to include in our diets. This is why it is so important to learn as much about each of the superfoods that we come across as possible.
For example, bananas are a superfood, but only if you eat the kind with a high percentage of potassium. Because bananas contain potassium, this fruit will aid in your digestive system. If you decide to use bananas to help with your digestive system, you should be sure that the bananas you choose have been prepared with a high percentage of potassium and have not been over-processed. In addition to the health benefits of potassium, bananas are one of the best foods for you to eat if you want to lose weight.
One more example of a superfood that you might want to consider is acai berry. Acai berry comes from a specific palm tree that grows in the rainforests of Brazil. The health benefits of acai berry, or the berry extract, comes from the antioxidant-like effect that acai berry has on our bodies. If you decide to add acai berry to your diet, be sure to choose organic products.
